The Multi-Pak

Survival Solutions Innovative Gear has done it once more!

Introducing the Multi-Pak.  S.S.I.G.'s answer to the Field Transport Pack.  This is the pack you've been dreaming about and didn't know it.

You can check it out on YouTube with Joe Fox (author of Survivalist Family) on The Viking Preparedness Channel; http://www.youtube.com/user/VikingPreparedness?feature=digest_tue

Gone are the days where a ruck was just for hauling stuff.  The Multi-Pak is designed to be unzipped and used as field gear as well as a pack.

Though Freud and old Bill might argue whether or not a cigar is just a cigar,  the Multi-Pak is not just a pack, it's a hammock, it's a cover, it's a stretcher, it's a wind-break, it's a tarp, it's a ground cloth, ground pad, shooting mat or just about anything else you can think of.  It's the most usable 4.5 lbs. of rucksack you'll ever own.  That and the weight savings of not having to carry extra gear.

When was the last time you unzipped your favorite Ruck and used it as a field expedient Ghillie?  Oh, that's right.....ours is the first!  And when it's all on the line, increasing your options can put the odds in your favor.  The Multi-Pak is a step in the right direction.

When fully unzipped, the Multi-Pak stretches to a full 7 feet long and 3 feet wide.  It's constructed with 1" web loops along all 4 sides for ease of construction of just about anything you want to make.

When used as a pack, the Multi-Pak has a main compartment measuring 24" tall, 16" wide and 8" deep, giving a total of 3072 cubic inches of space in one single compartment.  In addition, an external pocket measuring 18" tall, 12" wide and 4" deep, gives an additional 864 cubic inches of space for a grand total of 3936 cubic inches of space.

Built from 1000 Denier Multi-Cam Cordura (Duro Industries -licensed by Crye Industries) and Multi-Cam webbing from the only licensed manufacturer available, the Multi-Pak is one DURABLE piece of gear.  It's Made here, in the U.S.A. so it had better be!

The Multi-Pak is constructed using heavy duty materials and components like a YKK #10 VF STYLE ZIPPER WITH DOUBLE METAL PULL Y.K.K. These zippers are extremely strong and lightweight. The teeth are chemical and corrosion resistant Vislon nylon extending the use of Vislon beyond the conventional metal zipper. The zipper is self-lubricating to operate smoothly despite mud, sand and grime. Vislon has excellent heat resistance (up to 360°F.) and cold resistance (to -60°F). This pull, itself is metal.  The #10 is often used in tents, sleeping bags, hockey bags, or any application where you see large zippers.  In a word, STOUT!

Though #69 thread is commonly used in back-packs or heavy duty gear, we like the idea of using a heavier duty thread.  We think you will too.  That's why we use #92 Mil-Spec Nylon Bonded Thread for our Multi-Pak(Size 92 Nylon is a middleweight thread typically used for sewing leather, upholstery fabric, canvass, and vinyl and the difference between #69 and #92 can be easily seen upon closer inspection.  #92 size is also known as Tex 90 and Government Size F. It has an 15 lb. [6.8 kilo] tensile strength; a 0.133 in. [0.3378 mm] diameter, for those inquiring minds that want to know.)

The webbing used in the construction of the Multi-Pak is from TEXCEL, the only maker and supplier of Multicam webbing.  It is Mil Spec: A-A-55301 Type III   (Mil-Specs call for Type III for PALS webbing but most commercial manufacturers use Type IIIa. Type III is made with a textured nylon yarn and woven using a different weave pattern than that of Type IIIa. The Type III is slightly lighter in physical weight (a definite plus) and the textured nylon provides for better abrasion resistance than Type IIIa.

However the weave pattern of type IIIa may look more familiar to some folks, and being physically heavier, feels more robust, but don't let that fool you...... both have the same tensile strength; 1000 lbs.  That being the case, it should come as no surprise that TEXCEL doesn't even make TYPE IIIa.)  Since type III is lighter, this affords us the opportunity to double all webbing on the Multi-Pak and it's components for a whopping 2000 lbs of abrasion resistant webbing for the stout feel and durability that you would expect from U.S. Made products.
